A FLYING VISIT

I was amazed yesterday, to see a RAF Merlin helicopter thunder above my house and land in the field  opposite. Thinking it makes a change from photographing the usual toys and models, I grabbed my camera and took a few pics of this noisy beast against a very convincing backdrop of the neighbours back gardens.

  1. Hi Scoop, I wonder what the reason for this unusual zone was ? Did it make the local papers? Nice pics as well!

    1. It hasn't made the local papers so far Tony. The field is sometimes used as a place for the Air Ambulance to land as we're close to the hospital, but it was unusual for a military helicoper to land there.

  2. I like the photos because the military Merlin looks so at odds with the civilian setting. Well done Scoop :)

    1. Thanks. Yes, it's that ordinary suburban background that appealed to me in the photos. I took a few of the Merlin in the air but much preferred these.

  3. That was really cool Scoop, what a unique opportunity! We used to see similar sightings when German military helicopters would buzz by Bettina's house right outside her kitchen window (her old house bordered farm land).

    1. Gosh, I'm not sure I'd want the noise and whooshing of a helicopter outside my kitchen window Ed, I hope it didn't happen too often : D
