TONY K: PHOTOGRAPHS OF DERELICTION

Hi Woodsy

Hope you're keeping well. I just read your article, Dreamland Dereliction.

I'm sorry I don't have pix of abandoned amusement parks. Sadly there are none around here.

However, I do have snaps of urban dereliction and decay. I've always been captivated by old derelict buildings, often seeing an odd beauty amongst the rust and rubble.

I've included some pix of my own. You're welcome to use any of them to illustrate your article if you wish.

All the best, Tony K

  1. Those are brilliantly atmospheric and worryingly remind me of the landscapes I played in as a child!

  2. These are absolutely beautiful.

I can never quite reconcile my love of seeing abandoned and derelict man-made structures like these images with my equally strong love for the clean, futuristic look of things like Gerry Anderson shows and the 1964 New York World's Fair. The two concepts are in direct opposition -- and in fact, I find it upsetting to see old pavilions from the World's Fair fallen into disrepair and covered with rust -- but I find both of them compelling. Very strange...
