THE ASTON MARTIN LAGONDA

Yesterday Missus Moonbase and me took off into the hills of the the Holme valley near the Peak District. Besides being quite beautiful we were treated to a good view of model gliders being flown on the slopes of Holme Moss Summit, a brilliant view of the Holme Moss TV mast and station looking like something out of Dr. Who and probably best of all a walk round an unexpectedly fine collection of classic cars.

These were housed in the Carding Shed at Hepworth near Holmfirth, a venue well worth a visit and completely free. Besides Mini Coopers, old Mercedes and restored pick-ups, there was one car that literally took my breath away, the Aston Martin Lagonda.

I'd never seen one before and my first impression was that it was a long as a ship! It was huge and so futuristic its untrue. Beige in colour,  the vehicle was in immaculate condition and the interior was to die for, like something straight out of UFO.

Alas I was cameraless and I have the luddite issue mobile so to give you an idea of what I was looking at I will seek the help of Wikipedia, albeit a different colour. Have any of you come across the Lagonda readers?

  1. Funny you should mention UFO, Woodsy. The Lagonda was apparently designed by William Towns, who I believe had a hand in the building of the Shado Jeeps, which were constructed using two Mini subframes.

  2. It really did look Amazing Mike and I can totally see how a UFO designer was involved. I'm unsure of the timing but I bet it would have looked great outside Straker Studios! Wonder if Dinky or Corgi made a Lagonda?
