BLACKPOOL COMIC CON: THE VERDICT

Here's a few more photos from Saturday's Blackpool Comic Con. Unfortunately the event has not gone without it's fair share of criticism. The whole thing appeared to be over subscribed with far too many tickets sold. There was supposed to be two replica Batmobiles on display, however they were conspicuous by their absence, and the highly anticipated Space City 2015 display was cancelled two days before by the Comic Con organisers,  much to the disappointment of the All Sections Alpha display team, and others who had worked hard to get things ready, not to mention fans like me who had travelled to see the various models, some which apparently hadn't been exhibited for quite a while. The reason given was a lack of public liability insurance, which I find hard to swallow as there were quite a few other fan built film exhibits.

Considering the incredible amount of people there, many in  impressive and elaborate costumes, taking decent photos of things was more a matter of luck than judgement. Most of these were taken with a compact or my camera phone, but hopefully it'll give a little of the flavour of something that I can only describe as ill-organised chaos.

After  we'd queued for over an hour, once inside there was a total lack of any directions or sign-age. Although we'd arrived reasonably early, the place was already full, with more queues forming in a scramble for tickets to various VIP photoshoots, something I mercifully have no interest in!

The main hall was packed out with attendees milling about looking lost or queuing for autographs.

Not sure what Brian Johnson was taking a photo of here, possibly looking for a way out!

The lovely Ayshea was happy though, busy signing.

There was plenty of interest for the equally lovely David Graham, along with rest of the Tracy Brothers.

The Tracy Brothers waiting to go on stage for a convention talk on classic Thunderbirds.

The Tracy Brothers introduce themselves in this short video.

There was the obligatory Dalek , hovering by an ice cream counter.

Another Doctor Who related guest. We managed to gatecrash a photoshoot featuring Jenna Coleman, who, incidentally was born in Blackpool.

Some of the other exhibits, like this excellent Terminator skeleton.

Assorted droids from the R2D2  UK Builders  Club!

The DeLorean from Back To The Future.

I can only hope that the organisers will learn from their many mistakes at this convention ,and if by some chance they manage to have another next year then maybe...

...I'll be back!

  1. Blimey Scoop, sounds like you made the best of it though judging by your snaps. Do you think they picked the wrong venue? Hope Hulk wasn't there. You wouldn't like him when he's angry!

    1. I always make the best of these events Woodsy, if nothing else it's always a great atmosphere. The venue was fine, it was the organisation that was lacking. I have to say , though that the cosplayers really made it special. Some of their outfits were really excellent, with pretty much every super hero you could imagine represented.
