Another modern deployment of the acronym SWORD was in the 2007 Japanese movie VEXILLE. My friend Mark told me about this anime, which I'd never heard of. Here's a You Tube trailer with a gorgeous bit of singing in it [reminiscent of the melody in the final scenes of The MIST]
SWORD is a US Navy Seals team in the year 2077. They are sent in to gather intell about Japan, which has been sealed off under an energy dome.for a decade. Vexille is the only SWORD seal to evade capture.
There is even a resistance movement as well. Sounds like Project SWORD could have handled this one too!
