As I recently posted some photos on the Corgi Avengers gift set I thought I'd give these previously published pics of my Corgi New Avengers cars an airing.
First up, Steed's Range Rover.

ReplyDeleteI remember Steed driving a (very flash) Jaguar in the New Avengers. Which I thought at the time was not at all in keeping with Steed's gentlemanly persona, quite the opposite to his vintage Bentley.

So did Corgi decide on more suitable transport or did he exchange the Jag in the series then?

The producers wanted to retain that British feel so they got British Leyland involved A white Range Rover, as well as a green was used in the series. Steed sometimes drives a Rover 3500, and the Big Cat - The 5.3 Jaguar Coupe. Unfortunately his Bentley gets blown up in the episode Dead Men are Dangerous, If I remember rightly.
ReplyDeleteRight, that explains the Range Rover then. And I suppose it saved Corgi some money by adapting regular vehicles instead of having to make/modify dies to produce that Jaguar. Just I had a google coz I seemed to recall Matchbox producing one (can't find it, except for a slot car version in racing colours) but found Dinky did produce the Jag and Purdey's TR7 with figures as well (which could be nice to add to your fleet?).
ReplyDeleteI remember the episode where the Bentley was blown up, which was represented by a carefully removed grille looking pristine amongst some loose bricks! :)

Dinky produced a Purley TR7 which went on general sale, but Steed's Jaguar never made it past pre production models, which go for mega bucks now. (There was a boxed set at the Doncaster fair we all went to last year)

ReplyDeleteI was fortunate to see it at Brighton Toy and Model Museum years back, among all the other fabulous rarities.
It looks georgeus Arto, wouldn't mind one in my collection, but I couldn't justify the high prices for them.
