It first appeared in November 1970 and continued production until sometime in 1972. It obviously takes its inspiration from Dinky's Joe's Car but with a space age look.
It's pull out wings might not be much use in the lunar sky but for the kid with imagination , whose to say it is solely for use on the Moon, or they might be solar panels or something.
Although my example has blue wings, I believe there are some apparent rarer ones that are yellow.
The hatch at the back folds down giving access to the rear compartment, ideal for storing a Corgi Jr. or small Matchbox car.
I've noted looking at other examples that the hatch has been put in the opposite way round with raised run up section on the outside.
I must say I find it a fun and attractive die cast ...

Great buy Scoop. An iconic die cast toy. I loved my bug when I was a kid. I'd stuff allsorts in the back. Soldiers, callisto, sticklebricks. are the engines off the Joe 90 mac car?
ReplyDeleteIt's a super looking toy, Woodsy. The engines are not off Joe's Car as that was made by Dinky rather than Corgi but I can understand you thinking that.
ReplyDeleteCheers Scoop. The wheel axles were unique I thought. Rotating 360 degrees. Don't recall any others like them on a toy.
