Renato Fratini - Cover Artist of the Project SWORD Annual?

I wonder if anyone can shed any light on the artist Renato Fratini? I noticed online that Mr. Fratini may have illustrated the cover of the Project SWORD Annual in 1968 [GACCH].

A quick look on the web shows that Renato did covers for loads of pulp novels. He was also a very famous cinema poster artist in Italy in the 1950s and worked for the UK in the 1960s and 1970s.

Wonder how he might have come to paint the cover of the SWORD Annual?

  1. Hi - I run the page on Flickr with the Renato Fratini covers https://www.flickr.com/photos/pulpcrush/albums/72157631472877216 I can say that this does not reflect his style at all. Sorry, I don't believe that this is Renato's work.

    1. Thanks for that Tim. I have no idea about Renato's style. I based this small piece on a mention of Renato maybe having done the book cover I saw online here, about a sixth of the way down, just above the purple title The Beetle: http://www.technodelic.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/UpAnnSpec/ProjectSWORDAnnual.htm

    2. No problem! Funny thing, this has always been in the back of my mind! I'm in the process of writing a book on Fratini and his work, so this is bookmarked amongst all of the links that I have. To me, it seems to check out, similar style, vista and timeframe. Anyway - interested to see what others think! All the best, Tim.
