ORIGINAL MOONBASE ALPHA PROP

Some photos of what remains of the original Moonbase Alpha model which was on display at Alpha:2014.

What you see was rescued from being dumped into the dreaded skip after being removed from its plaster covered board when filming was completed. Although it's looking a little worn these days, it still looks pretty impressive to me.

Moonbase Alpha as it appeared in the Space 1999 series.

  1. I came close to buying that a few years back, it was selling for $16,000 on the Space:1999 Forum..

If I wasn't married, I sooooo would have.

  3. Thank God it was saved, an icon of its time. How many things have been chucked including all my space toys as a kid! This reminds me of how lots of TV21 artwork was being skipped and some insightful folk it them from oblivion! Great pics as always Scoop.

  5. Seeing these photos is strangely like revisiting a once very familiar place now decrepit and overgrown with weeds.

    1. Interesting analogy, Richard, kinda like it's been abandoned. Maybe Operation Exodus did finally happen for the Alphans!
