INSPIRATION FOR THE LUNAR CARRIER

As a post script to the Konami Lunar Carrier I  found this feature in the 1980 Dan Dare annual featuring drawings of real prototype aircraft and the designs did remind me of the SHADO Lunar Carrier. I wonder if Derek Meddings had seen pictures of these exotic looking craft when he designed the Carrier. What do you think?

    Form generally does follow function, in this case a nice aerodynamic 'lifting' body allowing an otherwise bullet-shaped object to fly.

    There is a much older French patent for a high-speed aircraft (possibly rocket-powered) which nestles between the booms of a larger propeller driven aircraft.
    Curiously the same patentee also designed a few years later designed a fighter with a large missile in its nose !
