I remember seeing Mr Matthews at a Fanderson Convention a few years ago and found him a charming and dapper man. At the time he owned a Jaguar XJS, and I was lucky enough to have a brief chat about sports cars with him.
I reckoned he was perfect for one of the other roles he played, the detective novelist, Paul Temple, seen here with Ros Drinkwater who played his wife, Steve.
Our sympathies to his family.
Thats a great loss, he was a fine actor, with such an iconic voice. Still, he leaves behind an outstanding career.

ReplyDeleteI feel badly for the loss of a link to my childhood, but by all accounts he had a good life and much to be proud of, so that helps ease the sting of it.
