DEATH FROM ABOVE

The 1970s Micronaut toys were an absolute revelation for me. Marketed in the UK by Airfix, these Mego toys were themselves an offshoot of Takara's long running Microman line. On the back of the standard Time Traveller figure card, were other figures in the line, some of which never reached English shores. Chief among them was the mighty Acroyear, an airborne robot trooper with a vast turbofan backpack. Later cards would also show Acroyear II with slimmer body and finned jetpack. It wasn't till many years later that I got my first Acroyear, followed a decade later by a Pallisades relaunch, the only major difference being a longer sword. Pallisades figures were not as well made as their older brothers and the joints fractured easily. But Acroyear still remains one of my favourite action figures, ever.

  1. Don't forget the wonderfully executed Micronauts comic book series licensed-published by Marvel Comics in the 1970s-1980s.

If ever there was a comic book-toy series so deserving of a big-screen treatment, it's the brave crew of the HMS Endeavor !
