I have said in the past that I'm none to keen on CGI. The problem for me is computer graphic effects, although cutting edge at the time, seem to date very quickly.
Proper model effects do date as well of course, but I always make the excuse that it adds to their charm.
I watched an episode of the New Captain Scarlet quite recently and do admit I enjoyed it, and I do appreciate the work that must have gone into creating that bewildering computer imagery.
I remember listening to an interview with Space 1999 effects man, Brian Johnson who felt that using computer effects in conjunction with real model work would produce the best results. I think that's a fair comment and I've no doubt current effects work is doing just that.
Maybe it's a generation thing, but given the choice I'm quite happy to see real models every time.
