VINTAGE TOY BOXES AND SUN FADING

Sunlight is a real fader when it comes to toy boxes. My best stuff is under wraps in a display cabinet covered with a blanket. I suppose an alternative would be some thick curtains.

How much a problem do you think sunlight is readers when it comes to fading box art?

  1. Sunlight is best avoided for any printwork, Woodsy. Including books and also printed tinplate (I have a toy Mustang that's deep orange on one side and faded almost yellow on the other from sitting in a toy shop window too long...). I keep the blinds down virtually all the time in my little room downstairs, and any box on a shelf is on the shadow side. Thought of covering the window with UV-blocking film, but never got round to it. Your blanket sounds most effective!

  2. Paul is right - UV rays are the enemy of color, printed or even fabric! If they're in a room with a window, at least keep the window covered with blinds or curtains - let them fade vs. artwork or boxes.
