IN PRAISE OF COLLECTIBLE TOYS AND VALUES MAGAZINE

Before the net there were magazines and one of my absolute favourites was the American Collectible Toys and Values published monthly by Attic Books Ltd. The first one I got in the early 90's was this Monster issue pictured. I must have read it cover to cover a hundred times. All in black and white it contained so much detail about every collectable ever released for each classic monster it blew my mind.

Each issue focused on a theme and boy, did they dish out the gen on it: super heroes, fantasy toys, cyborgs and robots and big creatures. Every collectable, all the variations and values. OK not everything was pictured but they made up for it in insightful introductions and tons of detail. I went on and bought as many as I could find imported ti the UK and even got hold of the book.

There were and maybe still are many other US toy magazines like Toys and Prices and Toy Collecting but Collectible Toys and Values was the one I read and soaked up every word. Anyone else read Collectable Toys and Values or another toy magazine?

  1. I subscribe to 3 publications that, while aren't completely dedicated to toys and collectibles, regularly devote a good portion of their issues to them. One is a Canadian magazine called G-Fan,which is about all things Godzilla. The other 2 are Horrorhound and Scary Monsters and they encompass a broader spectrum of monsters.Scary Monsters also has a mail order section in the back in which you could get monster goodies delivered right to your door, much like Famous Monsters magazine of old.Speaking of FM,a new version of the magazine is available,as I've seen it available here and there.
