GRIPPED OFF: EDAI AND IMAI DIE-CAST SKY 1

I love the Edai Grip die cast range of Japanese toys. I don't own any but I appreciate their beauty from afar. I do possess the die-cast Scramble Bug the similar Imai Good Model series.

I had thought that Grip had made a Sky 1. Looking at the boxed example above it's a small part of the Sky Diver. I did find, however, this Sky 1- lookalike that Imai did as part of their Good Models, the Friender Marine.

You can read more about Imai's Good Models on the fabulous Toyboxdx website. It would have been so neat if Imai or Edai had carried on from the Scramble Bug and made the rest of SWORD and SpaceX as die-casts. SWORDies have to be satisfied with the Bug and Aoshima's Zero-X and SpaceXers/ Golden Astronauters, the die-cast chassis quartet of the MOLAB, LT-10, LAMA and Surveyor, which I think came window boxed in the States.

Anybidy got any of the die-cast Edai or Imai toys?

  1. I remember Eidai models being re-named "Grip" in the early 1970s. I assume it's the same company.
