I saw this recently in cyberspace, an old Spanish rotor spinner toy by Pinplast. It doesn't half remind me of a similar toy I had as a Kid for my Major Matt Mason crew. I just can't think what! Any idea readers?
Where any of you big Major Matt fans when you were little astronauts on the back lot?
Its a copy of the marx moonbase version. Also spinners are very like the spacex nuclear pulse ones.
ReplyDeleteYou're thinking of the MMM Satellite Launcher, see here:

And yes, I was a big Major Matt fan, see here:

Still am!

Great MMM childhood memories Paul V., excellent read!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid MMM was never big here in Finland, even though there is photographic evidence of one of the larger MMM sets on sale at our foremost department store Stockmann in 1970.
Thanks Arto!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'd be very interested in seeing that photographic evidence?
Cheers -- Paul
I spotted the picture in the Finnish Toy History section of the grand toy exhibition held last year. Belongs to the Helsinki City Museum so unfortunately I don't have access to it here and now.
ReplyDeleteIt documented the toy department of Stockmann in 1970 with many interesting items (space ones, too). If I recall correctly it was the MMM Space Station on display.

Wow..! That'd be something to see indeed. Sounds like an excellent exhibition too. Don't suppose the exhibition has/had a website?
ReplyDeletecheers -- Paul
Paul it was really a state-of-the-art, world class exhibition curated by Grand Palais of Paris. Hundreds and hundreds of rare pieces, including an eye (and wallet) popping Robot Section.
