SLANG - O - RAMA

Slang is as much a part of growing up as Milkshakes, spots and Detention. Here are a few dozen slang words and some local dialect I remember [including some naughty ones] from my more tender/ adolescent years in Lancashire, North West England [let me know if any are familar! Your slang welcomed]

1. Belm [said with toungue pushing out bottom lip!] - your'e lying
2. Skoo - school
3. Cally - money
4. Laccy band - elastic band
5. Clippy - lady dus driver/ conductor
6. Sussed/ sussed it out - sorted, figured out [from police term s.u.s - stop under suspicion]
7. On the raz - going drinking in pubs
8. Joshing/ Tommin - joking
9. Fettled - sorted, finished
10. Hit the Sack - go to bed
11. Dob/ Dobbed - drop someone in it, to tell on someone/ to be dropped in it, to be grassed on
12. Clever clogs - smart ass
13. Mersey goldfish - used condom [usually floating in a stream]
14. Speccy Four Eyes - someone who wears glasses [like me!]
15. A,a/ numbers/ biz - poo
16. Knockers - ladies boobs
17. Chuffed - happy, pleased
18. Bedlam - noisy, chaotic place
19. Mighty - great [headbanger talk] " Black Sabbath were mighty!"
20. Soft - heavy as in metal [headbanger talk]
21. Paggered/ shagged - tired out
22. Pop 'n' crisps Night - Saturday night
23. Big Light - front room light
24. Get stretched - no chance
25. Get knotted - go away
26. Dogs Bollocks - the very best
27. Dogs breakfast/ dogs dinner - a real mess
28. Pictures - cinema
29. Slash - wee
30. Kushdi - excellent
31. buff/ trump - break wind
32. Skids/ skidders - poo stains in underpants or toilet
33. Shreddies - underpants
34. Wanker - idiot
35. Bird - girlfriend
36. Moofer - scooter
37. Hog - motorbike
38. Jostick - incense
39. Rec - recreation ground
40. Been packed - ditched by girl or boyfriend
41. Bowie cut - David Bowie haircut
42. Skinners - jeans with a turn-up
43. Kick The Can - kick a football and hide game
44. Chavvers - boy
45. Chippy tea - fish and chips for tea
46. Brew - cuppa tea
47. Gettin on my tits - really annoying me
48. Get - rotten fellow
49. Courtin - going out with a boy or girl
50. Is it Serious? - going out with a boy or girl for a long time!
51. Lugs - ears
52. Brass monkey weather - freezing cold
53. Pissin down - raining heavilly
54. Pissin around or about - messing about and annoying someone
55. Talent - good lookin' gals or guys
56. Cracklin - same as Talent
57. Skint - penniless
58. Pitch and Toss - throwing a penny against a wall [game]
59. Prannock - annoying person
60. Give it some welly/ Give it some rice - get stuck in, go faster, try harder
61. clown - fool
