Saturday Morning Cartoons

Well, its Saturday morning here at Moonbase Central and that means Saturday morning cartoons! Yay! Batman the Brave and the Bold at 10.35am with toy adverts in between followed by old reels of Loony Toons! Bliss! Like being back in the Sixties watching telly in my jim jams slurping up my puffa puffa rice!
I think my favourite cartoon back then was a toss-up between Spider-Man, with that totally catchy theme tune[".....catches thieves just like flies!"] and unforgettable incidental music or Shazzan [not to be confused with Shazam!] which had a ring in two halves and a donkey who went crazy if it's tail was pulled! There were just so many great cartoons though, it's hard to choose!

What were your fave Sat'day morning toons?

  1. Anybody remember Zocko in the seventies. It was a Saturday morning cartoon show with Ed Stewpot Stewart and a robot called Zocko!

Amongst the cartoons was spoken story which if I remember right was illustrated by artist, Jon Davis.

  2. I cant recall if it was saturday morning, but sandwiched inside the Double Deckers and Banana Splits were some great cartoons. Also weekday slots were Fantastic Voyage, Josie and the Pussycats in Space, Rocket Hood, Astonut,Space Kidettes with Capn Skyhook and another show featuring a family in a jeep who miniturised themselved with a stand up hair dryer!

  4. I pretty sure Banana Splits was a Saturday cartoon fest, with the Arabian Knights and that live action serial in middle, set on a tropical island . Were the Impossibles on that?

  5. Yep, remember Zocko, which was a sort of pinball machine which announced the scores and then the next feature, of which the only one I recall was the narrated strip SF cartoon. Would have thought it first appeared in later 1960s?

  6. Just checked, Wikpedia calls it Zokko, and states it ran 1968-70. No mention of Ed Stewart- I thought the Zokko machine was the presenter?

  7. You might be right Andy. I just have a very distant memory.

  8. Lucky you to still have Saturday morning cartoons. In that respect we are definitely a desert out here. I had a lot of favorites - perennials like the Huckleberry Hound show - but two that were always at the top of the list were 'Johnny Quest' and 'The Herculoids'.

  9. Wasn't there a space comic style thing on Zocko called "Skane"? I remember being hooked on it...thought it was incredibly dramatic at the time!
We used to go to the swimming baths sometimes on a Sauturday....sure I can remember pretending to be sick so I did not miss Skane.
Mind you, if I had a couple of days of school when I was young I would always try and stretch it out so I could see another episode of "The Boy From Space"...I loved that with a vengeance but it was only three years ago that I got to see the whole thing on Youtube...I was not disappointed, the best part of 40 years later!
