If Century 21 Toys had carried on after 1969 I often wonder if they would have produced more in the Project SWORD toy line. There were so many terrific designs in the Annual and SOLO/TV21 they could have brought to life in plastic. OK, some were given the cardboard model treatment and this allowed four vehicles to have their day in the sun but its not the same as hard plastic and a cool box is it!
One contender for Century 21 Toy's workbench would surely have been the Hover Tank, a beautiful and powerful battle SWORD vehicle. It was brought to life by a number of artists but my favourite is the illustration on the cover of the Make a Model Book, which is shown above.
I've been looking for something similar for years. Hover tanks are particular favourites of war and space gamers - just google hover tank gaming miniature and you'll see what I mean. But it was good old Ebay that coughed up an image of the nearest incarnation I've seen so far, a Greek made US Army Tank pictured below. I know, it's only a tidgey bit like the Hover tank but let a guy dream will ya!
