Aurora Seaview

I’ve had this Aurora Seaview kit since the late sixties. It came with a malformed tail fin but I glued it on anyway, keen to see the finished model. Over the years the points on the lower fins have snapped off and the periscope and aerials on the conning tower are long gone. I painted it the same colour as shown on the box, as I don’t suppose I’d have seen a colour photo of the real thing. But in spite of all that I still think it’s a good looking model.

I really do think its about time I invested in a another Seaview kit - it's a great looking boat!

  1. A great kit. Aurora maybe weren't the best kits ever but they really were fun. I had an Aurora Seaview when it was reissued in the mid 70s, a year or two before Aurora went bust. Then had to wait another 20 years before Polar Lights reissued it. Any now Moebius have a version too (weel two if you include their really large one as well).

  2. I had this one briefly too, only got the stand left now. I also had the ragnorok orbital interceptor, which is a lovely kit too. Id really like a flying sub!

  3. Great kit. Pity the reissues are so expensive. This is the film version with more windows at the front, rather than the TV one. I didi do a bit of research when I scrathbuilt a simple one, and found out there were at least 2 different models with differences of detail.

  4. I remember Aurora (and Linberg) kits to be rather heavy, clunky, and sometimes ill-fitting, but they did put out a lot of things other model makers weren't. Even with the missing parts your kit still looks good and I think much of the credit goes to the inherently terrific design of the sub. Thanx for sharing!!

  5. Once again, beautifully photographed, I never had this kit, but I have had several of the Flying Sub over the years.

  6. It really is a super design, isn't it. I never had the Flying Sub, in fact at the time I don't think I ever saw one at the local model shop. Seen a few reissues about but what a price they're asking for them !

  7. The Spindrift was another brilliant kit with the full interior structure and figures. Another one that ended up in the parts box over time :-(

Never had a flying sub - what a great toy that would have made too!
