There are junk shops and there are junk shops. Some we love and some we don't. As collectors around the world we'll have our favourite shops or fairs we visit the most. But what do you do around your visit? Go to your favourite cafe or maybe your top record shop? My 'perfect' Saturday route usually takes in a stop at Doncaster Fish Market for a saucer of tastey whelks and cockles with vineger, then a look over the old big box videos at the long established video and dvd market stall before mooching round the final stop, the vintage toy stall in the market overflowing with TV-related toys and games. When can I do it again!
What's your favourite collectables route?
Alberta, Canada: In years gone by, we have had comic book vendors with a specialty section of collectible toys, but seems to be a complete void now. Perhaps eBay and other online sources are too efficient? We have several "Antique Malls", where the odd surprise turns up :) (even more surprising if it is reasonably priced ;).
ReplyDeleteAn excellent store in Canada last visited in the 1980's (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) was called "The Indefinite Article" where large collections of electric train sets regularly changed hands; bringing along other toys in the wake.
Here's an American take on a day spent looking for collectibles.In my native New Jersey,I'll spend a day at the Berlin Farmers Market; a huge indoor/outdoor "flea Market" or collection of junk shops.New and old merchandise is available and you'll never know what you'll find.I also partake of the food stalls,It's mostly Polish delicatessen specialties and a pretzel bakery where you can see fresh pretzels bake through a glass window in the oven.Then it's on to a comic shop,followed by a hobby shop(trains,model kits),and lastly, an excellent vintage toy dealer.This market has stood for about 100 years and I 've visited often for my own 40+ years on this planet.Whenever I feel low ,this place has always cheered me up.
