Small Moonship

Recently clocking this China-made Small Moonship online [left] I was reminded of the Clifford version of the SpaceX Cruiser from their Moon Traffic range [right]. Is the basic design based on a real spacecraft concept? [picture: bellumsaxo]

    Is it an early Shuttle escape-pod design? It looks like something expected to re-enter heavy atmosphere at speed.
