Fab 1 Callisto 0

I used to love mixing toys together for big space adventures on the Living Room carpet when I was a kid in the Sixties. Epic battles and grand manouvres, SWORD toys, Dinky TB2, UFO Shadomobile and Interceptor, Major Matt Mason and Callisto all thrown in the mix and a whole battalion of Airfix soldiers surrounding the lot of them! Sometimes Action Man waded in too like a giant and only Captain Laser could stop him [or my Sister's Sindy!]

What were/ are your favourite toy combos?

  1. The ability to 'mix' toys (both make and scale) must be a trait of the very best imaginations. Always a bit too 'scale' sensitive to allow my 1/35? MARX or Britains soldiers to work with Major Matt Mason. But the Major did lend his base and vehicles out to the smaller figures while he was out battling various AURORA monster & prehistoric models(which themselves were almost action figures).

  2. Seconding what CS said. I could never get past the difference in scale to incorporate both Matt Mason and, say, Dinky toys at the same time. That said, I'm pretty sure a train set needed rescue by Thunderbird 2 more than once, and I vividly recall model buildings made to serve as the secret depot where Captain Scarlet picked up his SPV.

  3. I played Gulliver with Action Man and Airfix! Lots of cotton and some drawing pins...a quick chat and he'd help them defeat the Germans...almost, the German Para officer was always 'last man standing' and usually dealt with A-Man using a huge bomb packed into all my Hornby/Merit boxes, barrels and crates!!
