Whilst searching the net for new SWORD and SPACEX titbits I like to blow the dark matter from my helmet with some 'eavy rock! A life-long fan of Status Quo, by far my fave LP of thiers is Dog of Two Head from 1971, which I'm currently de-cobwebbing Moonbase with. Of this uniformly brilliant album of bluesy guitar axemeisters, the best rockin' riff, perhaps the best in Rock, is the mighty Somethin's Goin' On in My Head, a tad tuneful I'll hope you agree. Hav' a listen in the booth up top [d'ya remember record booths in record shops?]. I challenge you to find a better riff!
I've complimented you on your musical taste before Woodsy but to find you to also be a fan of 'The number one rock and roll band in the land' (and Quo fans know where that's from!)is the icing on this cake. As for me, while you're not wrong about how good your choice is; for me my favorite album is 'Hello' and my number one song is that usual opener to Quo gigs 'Caroline'. In fact I've had Quo on the brain & CD system a lot lately due to getting the superb 'Essential Status Quo' box set in a charity shop for only £5 for three discs of sheer bliss (second only to seeing them live of course!) so keep on rocking Woodsy and remember....If it's too loud.......you're too old.....obviously not in your case!
ReplyDeletehee hee Steve, great to hear from a fellow rocker and Quo'ster! That box set sounds like a bargain. I love Caroline as well. Quo's early singles were just ace, Paper Plane, Down Down and of course the great Caroline. Just re-watched it on You Tube! 1973. My God, I was twelve and wanted to be Francis Rossi! Caroline was the first riff I learned on my cheap Telecaster copy [wish I still had that axe!]. There were many great rock singles and one of Quo's big three are up there with the best of 'em. Top o' the pile could be Wishing Well by Free or Jane by Jefferson Starship and from my mid-twenties, Revolution by Cult! Howsabout you Steve?
ReplyDeleteIve still got my cheap Precision copy Woodsy! Hhmmm.....Well in no particular order, 'Shoot Shoot' by UFO 'Motorhead' by Motorhead (honorable mention for 'Bomber')'Take it all away' by Girlschool. Of late I've had a lot time for the Foo Fighters 'DOA' 'the Pretender' & 'Monkey Wrench' to name but some modern classics. True Story Time No.1....When Mrs Cloudbase and I first got together I wanted to share my favorite things with her (as you do..) so I took her to her first ever rock gig.....Motorhead at the legendary Glasgow Apollo (where 'Quo Live' was recorded as you know)on the 'Bomber' tour and the best part? she had exams next day! needless to say she didn't pass for which she did forgive me and she is now an AC/DC fan so I guess it took root!
