Question Time

Does Project SWORD story fit any of the timeframes of the other Anderson concepts and programmes? SWORD dates to 3031 AD. Or is it the furthest forward in the future?

And whilst we're at it, can the Tri-ang Spacex/ Golden Astronaut toy range be 'dated'? Is it set in the future too in some way?

What do you think Swordies?

  2. Death to ALL spammers ... a death so vile and horrid that it can only be spoken of in hushed tones.

    OK, the question ...

The Andersonic timeline thing is full of pitfalls. The simple basic fact is that NONE of the shows, etc, fit into each other. NONE.

The expert on them is Keith Ansell ... he has made valiant (and dare I say "obsessive"?) attempts to construct such a timeline. He came up with lots of good ideas ... but it just can't be done. There are so many contradictions between series ... and contradictions within series themselves.

Yes, Porject S.W.O.R.D. is the one farthest into the future as far as I know (off the top of my head) ... but does that make sense?

It is supposedly hundreds of years from now, yet they are using at least one machine which was abandoned in the 1960s.

They also use the Zero X! Think about it .... that was in use in 2066 or 2067. To the people of 3031, that was ancient history ... it's almost as far back (almost, I say) as the Battle of Hastings is for us! Yet they are still using technology from that era ?!?

No, Project S.W.O.R.D. doesn't make internal sense with that date ... nor can it satisfactorily be rationalised to fit in with the other series. But I am open to suggestions.

Not being a party-pooper, just saying it can't work. Better to just see Project S.W.O.R.D. as something special in its own right and let your imagination run free from there.

As for SpaceX ... I'll have to comment on that later. (smiles)

  3. OK, back from shopping and what have you ... time for SpaceX.

This is my personal take on SpaceX.

"Can it be dated?", you ask, Woodsy. I don't believe there are any inherent characteristics which lead to a definitive, objective date. So no.

But personally, I "imagine" them as being part of a very near future. No more than 20 years ahead of now. And I see them as being privately owned exploration companies (or maybe Franchises). Think "Salvage One" but with the emphasis on exploration rather than salvage.

And by Salvage One, I mean this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvage_1

  4. I'm going to risk putting a spanner in the works...
From what I recall of Spacex, it seems to me that their craft cover quite a wide timescale, from simple moon-exploring vehicles to more SF-oriented deep space(?) craft -an even broader timescale than the SWORD vehicles, I would have thought?

  5. Some seem akin to what we have, or could have, now. Others do seem a little "futuristic". Quite right, Andy. But I just ignore all that and rework it in my head. (grins) ... well, it's my head, isn't it? I can do whatever I like in it, long as I clear up afterwards.
