Well its been a busy day atMars Base as Zero X dropped off Commander Woods yesterday for his annual check on systems at Cydonia Station. An added surprise was a brief layover by Commander Burrows as he took time for a brief refuelling stop before leaving orbit for Earth base and a return to Glenn Field. It was a great opportunity to bring some of the artefacts out of the Wotan Archive and generally discuss recent goings on between the three of us. Next day Cmdr Woods took time out to examine the archive in person, marvelling at Wotans utter lack of curatorial skills and at the breadth of the collection! During the inspection, I came across the partly completed Imai Zero X kit, the small six inch version.
After Cm Woods had picked up the Ferry for the next leg of his mission, I took a moment to finish spray painting the model with the remains of a can of metallic blue car paint. When I had originally bought the kit I had been apalled at the crudity of the design of the kit and consigned it to the back of the archive, but after the arrival of the Bandai OX toy as an xmas gift from Terry, I was taken aback by the similarity of the design to the toy. The Bandai toy has a simplicity that one might expect from a toy, whereas the Imai kit seemed to promise a more accurate representation of the ship.
So plans are afoot for the next meeting of minds for the blog faithful and Zero X is warming up her engines once more for further forays into other reaches of the solar system..
Earth Base to Mars, Glenn Field calling. Thanks for the fuel and hospitality. Look forward to my next orbit.
ReplyDeleteWelcome anytime, always good to hear tales of the spaceways!
DeleteFeeling left out ... sniff sniff
ReplyDeleteairlock door is always open for you PT!
ReplyDeleteBack on Moon Base. Thanks for your hospitality Wote. And nice to see you again Mike B. It was great to share notes and gawp at some old toys together guys. Wote has an unbelievable collection of vintage stuff. Some kind person needs to donate a house to display it all in! And I sttill can't beleive the thing about the SWORD TV21 stories!
ReplyDeleteGreat to catch up with you too, Woodsy.
ReplyDeleteWhat thing about the TV21 stories? Wanna share? Or is this a private party?
ReplyDeleteill speak for woodstock - basically, he didnt realise that A) there were 12 months worth of text stories and b) that the extant SWORD material in TV21 was just that - text stories and not strips!
ReplyDeleteBut I've told him that before. No wonder my head aches ... it's this brick wall I'm hitting it against. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteits an age thing Toad, hes cracking on a bit nowadays... :-D
ReplyDeleteand this from a man who missed the similarity between the Spacex NF2 and Thunderbird 2!
ReplyDeleteI'm back from work now and yes I am cracking up I think! Sometimes it takes several mallet blows to hammer facts into my brain. It just hadn't clicked with me that ALL the TV21 SWORD stories were simply text with one illustration. Never having had many TV21's as a kid the comic is under my own personal radar. Everything I learn is second hand so it takes much longer, as WOTE says, at my age! Sorry Toad if you have experience of my senior moments! Now that the light is actually on in my cranium, what a shame that TV21 abandoned the comic strip style wholesale in favour of SWORD text stories regardless of how good they may be [I reckon kids would have agreed at the time too]. Still I'm looking really forward to posting more of them soon courtesy of Taodster and maybe the rest of them one day.
