Miracle Day

I've never been keen on the Cardiff-based TV programme Torchwood. For years I've written it off as a quirky Dr.Who spin-off. However, recent trailers for the new season's opening episode Miracle Day have piqued my interest. OK, a world were no-one dies is an evergreen Sci- Fi apocalypse but I'm interested to see how a modern production handles it for TV [ next Thursday evening 9pm ]. Is anyone else giving Torchwood a spin this time round?

  1. Not me, that's for sure. Can't stand the program. Self-indulgent rubbish.

Must admit though that the theme of not-dying is one which I find fascinating. To me, that would be hell. Did you ever read what Emily Dickinson wrote in one of her letters?

"Does not Eternity appear dreadful to you. I often get to thinking of it and it seems so dark to me that I almost wish there was no Eternity. To think that we must forever live and never cease to be. It seems as if Death would be a relief to so endless a state of existence."

  2. well i found the original series compelling at first for its dr who connections and the use of alien technology, but when john barrowman decided to literally shag everyone in sight and rub blatant promiscurity into everyones face, i found it a bit old. im not homophobic by any means and dont have a problem with such activity per se, but it just seemed a little pointless and as toad says, self iindulgent in the circumstances. the last series of TW with the gas breathing aliens demanding a third of all human children was much better, evocative, scary and thought provoking. if miracle day can match the seriousness of that episode and lose the soapy frills of jacks varied sex life, it should be good.

  3. Thanks for your comments guys. I've just read an newspaper article about Torchwood. Seems that the producers have teamed up with a US TV company called Starz and it's been shown there already. Thursday night is going to be a problem for me as I've just started watching the US re-make of the Danish crime series The Killing, which is on at 9pm too!
