The ejectable miniature craft inside some space toys were always hidden treasures. Worlds within worlds. The fabulous JR21 Submarine Aircraft Carrier had red wing-tipped missiles called 'Air Crafts' nestled under it's bomb hatch, seen to dramatic effect on the fantastic box art [my favourite of all JR21]. Similarly the Spacex Nuclear pulse had an integral 'Space Ship', which launched from a clear cockpit - style blister. The instruction sheet explained everything in glorious detail [courtesy of Mike B]. Are there any other toys with hidden or secret firing rockets and missiles? What's your favourite?
While I wouldn't call it a favourite, I always liked the TB2 inspired Battlehawk from the unlamented Gerry Anderson comeback series 'Terrahawks'. During it's initial run during the mid-eighties I picked up the Bandai Battlehawk action model from the local Co-op store.
ReplyDeleteThe plastic model featured a small Terrahawk model which slid onto a launch pad on top of the Battlehawk and with the flick of a hidden switch would catapult the plane across the carpet.
It also came with a small diecast Battletank which could be winched up inside the Battlehawk's undercarriage.
Finally, it featured a rear opening cargo door and a forward entry hatch with slide out loading ramp.
