I have very fond memories of Easter as a child growing up in Lancashire, England. Mass, hot cross buns, Disneytime and of course Easter Eggs. The two I remember the most were both bought from our local Post Office, which always had a marvellous display of choccy eggs. One was what I believe to have been a plastic Thames truck with a foil covered chocolate egg nestling oin the back. I loved this egg-toy and when I asked Mum the Truck's name she replied quickly 'For easter'. As a result I have always called Thames trucks 'Freasters'! The second egg-toy I loved was a clock. The clock was in fact an octagonal box with the 'numbers' being small foil covered choccy eggs. Complete with plastic clock hands it was an absolute joy. I haven't any photo's of these and can't find anything similar on the Net so I've attempted to sketch them below. Anyone else have any favourite Easter eggs or toys?
i used to get one of those clocks every year too! brown face with little eggs all the way round!
ReplyDeleteI had the clock one year too! An uncle who we very rarely saw turned up one Easter with one for my sister and I. Loved it too!
ReplyDeleteWhen we had opened our Easter Eggs....there was always an extra big Cadburys one from mum and dad....and eaten some of the chocolate, my sister and I would have these little competitions to see who could rearrange the foil, kind of reconstruct the broken egg and put it back in the box as if it had not been opened.
Ah, simple games were fun back then!
Happy Easter Everyone!
The truck ones were usually by Tudor Rose, Kleeware or Thomas Toys...I used to like the fact that there was none of this modern branded chocolate-bar tie-in stuff, we used to collect the little mugs that came with eggs perched on them, not kitkat or cruchey, but squirrels or elephants or Noddy...
