Auto 21

I while ago I posted a cool little plastic car from the Gooble Gang [below], which would have done Commander Straker proud.  Well here's another one on the ebay radar, an ultra-retro Futura 21. What an Andersonic auto. The 21 must be inspired by the Andersverse. Did anything like it appear in the shows?

  1. Oh my! This is cool, isn't it?

    I love the night-drive artwork.

But did you notice ... in the artwork the car is left-hand drive ... but the toy is right-hand drive. Why, I wonder? American artwork but British car? Perhaps there are left-hand drive versions too?

Or maybe the designer realised you couldn't trust a guy to drive a car as cool as this so he put the steering wheel on the woman's side? Heh heh.

  2. There were a variety of such bubble-top show rods in America in the '60s, both toy and actual, but this one seems to be based on a Lindberg model kit, the "GT 200 Dream Car." Here's a discussion of it and a very similar slot car, with photos:

  3. Thank you, Dev. Good link. And interesting that those ones ARE left-hand drive.
