Emotional Rescue

Its Friday and im feeling a little frivolous and speculative. Seeing Woodstocks Dyna-Soar/Saturn mash up the other day, made me wonder why such a cool idea hadn't been suggested before. Looking at similar toys, such as a personal favourite the Spacex R6 Rescue Craft, I thought id try the same thing.

The R6 is such a tiny little toy, about 10 cm long, that it wasnt hard to find a suitable launch vehicle. The Spacex Interplanetary 1 is the obvious choice, as the rocket from the Mobile Launch pad, but its too thin and streamlined at the nose. Consequently, I opted for the Revell Convair Shuttle instead, as the clean lines have a spacex air about them.

The R6 reminds me of the XRV Rescue vehicle from Marooned - previously shown here. It is also very similar to an illustration from the Daily Mirror Book of Space showing a 'Space Lifeboat'. Have a look at John Sissons excellent site for more on this cool book.

  2. I had to cheat and do mine digitally, otherwise the R6 wouldnt fit properly on the rocket!

The Dyna Soar looked prefectly happy sat on the saturn!

  3. That's not cheating, Wote, that's using your skills creatively.
