On the shoulders of Giant

Following hot on the heels of Andys post yesterday with his brief reverie of some lost astronauts from our collective childhood, the ever resourceful Toad got on the case and tracked them down almost immediately.

The spacemen were made by Giant - a company responsible for many different figures and a range of toys in the sixties. There will be more to follow on Giant shortly as theres a great article in the book Blast Off! which ill show soon. Meanwhile, Toad and Andy have sourced the website Toy Soldier HQ which is a great nostalgia trip!
Meanwhile, here are the Astronauts in question, in the plastic! Toad reports that Giant made a line of aliens to menace the astronauts too.

  2. Couldn't have put it better myself, Bat Fiend ^_^

Just like Andy said, these lil figures are crude in terms of detailing, but there is just something about them that makes them very attractive.

The figure at bottom-left in the picture showing all eight ... can't you just imagine him converted so it looks like he's playing a guitar? It's "Listy" in the Lost Day episode of Red Dwarf. LOL. No? Oh, just me then ...

Looking forward to seeing that article you mention, Wote!

  3. Theyre all air guitar candidates! Im sure I must have at least one of those little fellas somewhere, I know I had some in brown and silver - probably pirated from Giant itself as they came with a tiny MMM space crawler, a tb3 and a vacform SPV and molab.

    Ill have a look later..

  5. dont know if mine we're pirated versions, they came in a 'bronze' and a 'silver' and were bendy plastic.

The aliens have a little green cap in there, so its conceivable that there may have been blue too..
