We've recently been discussing the Scouts and whether the SWORD Manual came with them. The boxes state clearly that they contain a badge and a Specification Sheet but no mention of the Manual. I agree with Andy B that these toys came late in the series as they didn't appear on the Manual and I've never seen a TV21 or Joe 90 comic advert for them except one from TV21 #202 November 1968 [below] showing Scout 1. We know that there's a PHASE 2 of SWORD toys, as advertised in TV21, which pictures the Apollo Saturn. The Nuclear Ferry box clearly states 'Phase 2' on it as well. Could the Scouts have been a further phase 3? Just imagine if there were more designs planned!
the Nuclear Ferry box states it should come with a badge and 'specification sheet', mine came with a badge (commander) but no paperwork. The Ferry box is large, so the physical size is not really an issue, coz you could fit a manual in there easily. I think it was because a new manual would need to be produced and SWORD had me its end by the time Scouts 1,2 and 3 flew in.
ReplyDeleteid love a flat scan of the front of the yellow scout 2 box!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure, extrapolating from Andy's observation, that Wote is correct. There was no manual simply because they did not want the added expense of having to design and print one.
ReplyDeleteBut what, pray, did the Nuclear Ferry Specification Sheet look like I wonder?
ReplyDeleteYour flat scan is winging it's way to you Wote.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that specification sheet was another item that never came to fruition despite what the box says?
