Red Nacelles of the Future

Biulding up my Century 21 Zero-X the other weekend I again admired how the wing nacelles are so neatly finished by red tips. I've noticed these on the Century 21 Angel Aircraft as you can see above. I wondered if there was anything similar on Sci Fi pulp covers. Here's a trio of them from cyberspace. I'm sure you can find more [please send]:
The middle pictureabove shows a rear red tip, which looks more as if the nacelle is glowing red hot rather than being 'painted' red. Is this the physics behind the red or where they finished in red for a reason?
