A cabinet of cool covers. 'Thrilling Science Fiction' A Message in Secret portrait two rows up is by none other than SWORDfather Ed Valigursky. He was great at painting faces. And the S-17 deltoid glider [larger snap], which is SO like the SWORD Scout 3, is by t'other SWORDfather Robert McCall. I love the NASA Tours 'Moon Bus'! My favourite though is Willy Ley's Satellites Rockets and Outer Space cover with a Dyna-Soar type glider parked up next to a Force 2.
"Willy Ley's Satellites Rockets and Outer Space cover with a Dyna-Soar type glider parked up next to a Force 2" - Not quite! This was a Wernher von Braun design for a Mars lander - the rocket on the left formed the front of the craft, and was for the return to orbit - it was separated from the wings and cargo section on the right after landing, and was jacked upright. A version of this design was seen in the film "The Conquest of Space", and von Braun's Mars landing plans were used in heavily adapted form in Charles Chilton's 1950s radio serial "Journey into Space - The Red Planet". I'll try to find some more illos of this design.
