The Noble Art

"Hi Paul,
I was looking at the Bob McCall docked ferry picture above in your Ferry Cool article the other day and it did seem reminiscent of a panel from an early Mike Noble TV21 XL5 strip. What do you think?
Cheers
Mike Burrows"
Absolutely Mike, it's more or less the same image! Well spotted! Brill! Amazingly the Mike Noble image and the McCall original in Look and Learn magazine appeared on the same day, April 10th 1965! Coincidence or what? I imagine Mike Noble saw the earlier publication of the McCall painting in LIFE magazine dated October 2nd 1964. There's also a look of SWORD's Probe Force 1 to the Mike Noble plane! Particularly the undercarraige picture, nose-tip and the tailfin. See comparisons below. I just wonder!

  2. definitely a lift from PF1 by Mr Noble there. Well spotted on recalling that obscure panel though!

  3. Mr. Noble's strip is 1965. Could it be the source of the 1967 PF1 toy?

  4. Mike Noble mentioned in an interview in FAB (Fanderson News) that he was inspired by LIFE magazine as he had relatives who sent him copies to get ideas and stuff from.
