There are three strange words on my 'Italian' SWORD toys, the Hover Booster Rocket and the de-Tarheelised Moon Ranger. Both were acquired from Italy and the Booster Rocket also has the CONSORTI gummed label on the box I've discussed before . These three X-ending words are either ink stamped or hand-written on pieces of gummed paper. The words are IPEX [top picture right corner], ATRX and IREX all pictured above. My theory is that they refer to import-export in some way. Perhaps imports into Italy had to be marked like this during the 1960's? the only refernce I can find to IPEX is a trade fair for the media, which dod take place in the Sixties and carries on to this day at Earls Court in London. Could the toys have been bought wholesale from the manufacturers or agents there by Italian toy importers? Ideas welcomed!
PS. The other known 'Italian' SWORD toy is the Hover remote controlled Probe Force 3. It doesn't appear to have any of the X words on the box but it did have the Italian CONSORTI label inside [previously blogged courtesy of Starbase].
More to follow on the de-Tarheeling of the Moon Ranger!
