CEREAL KILLERS
I really love the old Sugar Smacks premiums, back in the day I only managed to get one or two - the green Molab in the above picture is the only one which survives to now and only then after multiple repairs, modifications and ham-fisted paint jobs. Originally made by the R & L Cereal company, these fab little premiums still command a good price today. The Rocket Transporter and Molab were always my favourites, especially the Molab which turned up some years later as part of the second Spacex range. This and the rocket transporter were the only two 'fanciful' designs in the series, the others which also included a standing astronaut and a radio telescope, all had their roots in actual NASA concepts.
The brilliant but delicate Space Station appeared in this concept drawing - probably from Grumman, Mc Donnel Douglas or Hughes Aerospace in the sixtes, when space stations as a stepping stone to the moon, were big business.
You and Andy B must have had the best cereals. I never had any of the space vehicles. I do remember the Thunderbirds vehicles though and for some reason Thunderbirds/Joe 90 Key rings with little rubber figures. They weren't in cereals were they?
ReplyDeleteI don't remember key rings. There were a series of polythene models of standing Thunderbirds characters abot 2" high. They were kgiven in Kellogs cereals and a series of crackers.
ReplyDeletePleased to see the missing vehicle I never had from the space series in Wotan's collection!
