Cabinet of Curiosities Revisited

Well its time for Mars Base to take control of the blog again as Woodstock takes a well earned rest and Wotan takes the helm. Its been a fine martian day here and ive raided the archives for a brief peek at some of the smaller items held in storage.

First up are this range of four miniature robots, probably made by west german manufacturer Bruder. Usually sold as cake toppers or novelties, they have lever controlled arms and small rolling wheels beneath.Each is under 3 inches tall.
Next its a return to the world of Kinder and a selection of tiny trucks with a futuristic feel, a pair of tankers, an airport crash tender, an airport crew van and a cargo handling truck, complete with moving crate.My favourite out of all of them is the blue truck carrying a diminutive minisub! Each is again a matter of inches long.
Once more, Ferrero manages to amaze with a selection of tiny vehicles from Kinder Eggs back in the eighties, with this range of vehicles comprising Ice Sleds, helijets, Laser Drill and Alien spaceships.
Finally t round off this article on small toys are these Bruder spaceships, again usually found as cake dressing novelties. These are part of a slightly larger range of about 8 vehicles in the small set. Im not sure if there are any more larger ships like the saucer, as its the only one if come across. Notice the re-use of parts from the robot series here.

  1. Re Bruder spaceships, not seen the flying saucer before. It must have been at a different price point as it's a lot larger than the others.

  5. Funnily enough one of the blogs I link to put a few up the other day;

    He's got three more, and I have a further 4 (send you an image) giving at least 12 vehicles + your big saucer which I've never seen either. All mine are marked either Giodi or West Germany, so the moulds must have wandered!

    There is also a set of at least 6 from China, which are simplified copies but in the same white/blue/silver colours to help confusion, they were imported to Italy by Cose Progetti Promozionali whoever they are!!

  6. What about Schwester?8/25/2010 7:04 pm

    Bruder? That's German for brother. Could be confusing if they ever made a main vessel - the Brother Mother Ship! And any variant would be the 'other Brother Mother ship'!

  9. Hi Frank, sounds cool. I have seen loads of different variations of the Bruder miniatures and from all over the world. Some were carded, some were in bags and some were bought loose from shop counters I imagine.
