The great thing about this blog is that it occasionally throws up a curve ball with an unknown toy appearing that needs identification. A good case in point is this little plastic chap, who has been flagged up to me by blog reader Adi. He's as much in the dark as I am about his history, but tells me that the figure is just under 3 inches tall and has articulated limbs. His helmet is clearly removable, as is his 'mace'. My initial response was that he may have appeared in a Ferrero Kinder Egg, as I have had similar figures before, but they tend to be made by Giodi. This little chap has a mark on his foot of the letter 'RP' enclosed in a circle.
Anyone got any clues ?
Res Plastics = RP
ReplyDeleteSupplied most of the 54/60mm figurines to Kinder, I'll send you an image or two!!
Res were (might still be?) a major plastics producer in Italy supplying various premiums and selling under their own name. I think they're responsible for those little multi-coloured motorcycles that turn up from time to time.
This chap is from one of 4 or 5 similar sets of Spacemen Aliens and Robots, I'll try to get something to you tonight!
'Aletat'...Tattoo allergy!
MAV - you da man!
ReplyDeleteWell, I try!! I think Giodi is Italian slang for toy or plaything?? As it or something similar figures in a fair few Italian toys, toy marks, packaging etc..needs an Italian Moonbaser to confirm or explain!!
ReplyDeleteThinking now of Gigi (Galoob/Kenner/Hasbro importers), Gioto, Gest, etc...
'Eveno'...One of the words Vic Reeves rejected in favour of 'Irano' and 'Uvavo'
The coloured motorbikes were by the Italian manufacturer CGGC. They're certainly similar in style to the RP figures so they're may be a connection somewhere along the way.

This is where the plot thickens, as the little Playmobile type figures with pyramidal arms and legs, or the similar figures with Lego mini-people 'block' torso's, both of which are a feature of collecting 1970's and early to mid 80's Kinder, also appear in the CGGC mini-boxes?
ReplyDeleteAlso what are the two 'G's? Gigi, Gioto, Giocotelli?
RP's rival/fellow producer; Nardi, also supplies 54mm figures for those little boxes, notably the Tarzan and Musketeer figures, Union/Confederate & Wild West models.
It needs an Italian collector who isn't only interested in Airfix, Timpo or Britains !
'Cocale'...a Vegemite formulated for Koala Bears!!
Apologies for the silly typo in my previous post.
ReplyDeleteCGGC was part of Grisoni SpA by 1983. Whether CGGC was originally an independent operation or always a brandname of Grisoni I can't say.
Possibly more of interest to this blog's readers is that CGGC made a small range of robot models in the 1980s. Maybe, as Hugh implies, those kits were also available as Kinder Toys.

Sean - got any pics of the CGGC droids ?
ReplyDeleteWOTAN, do a search for Grisoni on eBay Italy. There's a load on there right now.
