THE CAR BOOT SUMMER HAS BEGUN

Above are the spoils of my latests forays into Charity shops, Nostell Priory Car boot Sale and Huddersfield Second Hand Market: popeye jigsaws, matchbox cars, a robot, a truck, Book of Space, games and more. There was more I could get like a box full of 1980's He-Man figures but at 50p a figure it was too dear even with discount. A War of the Daleks game by Denys Fisher caught my eye but £15 was too steep for my embattled wallet. Will I regret that? A particularly interesting item is the 1962 John Glen Astronaut book - started reading it already! My favourite find though is the completely mint card paddling pool pump [at the rear - still with the Woollies price tag on of 20p!], which above all else reminds me of long hot summers past in the Sixties sploshing about in inflated pools and runnung through the lawn sprinkler, a plastic perforated 'doughnut' attached to the end of the hose! Bliss! A good idea for today as it's scorching hot!

  1. ah summer! looks like youve cleaned up there! War of the Daleks at £15 is a bit steep for a car boot, even if it did contain some nice model daleks. The orange Corgi Junior Futura car at the front is nice, quite a rarity - ive still got mine from the seventies!
    Hata Off! cool game!

  2. WOTAN is probably correct re the price of the Dalek game ... but I bet you are still going to ponder, "should I have..." - especially if I keep reminding you. Mmm, now there's a fun game ^_^

I see you have a Carabo there! Just about my favourite concept car after the Astra 1!. If I was stinking rich, I'd have a Carabo for real!

And you have a Lotus Europa ... and is that the Man From U.N.C.L.E. car nestled beside it?

  3. There's 2 Lotus Europas there Toadster. A little Playart Porsche next to them. Reckon you're thinking of the Husky MFU car, which looks a little like Strakers car. Yeah, it would be cool to own a classic sports car like the Carabo or the Europa. Mine would be a Lotus Esprit or Elan or a Lamborghini Marzal. To take my dream one step closer I have just been looking at a big fold out map of Switzerland in a camping shop. That would be so 007 to motor round the alpine roads. Just not in my Nissan Micra! Anyone got a DB6 spare for the summer!?!

  4. Oh yes ... a motor tour of Switzerland in a concept car. That would be something.

And sorry, but my Aston Martin is back in the garage again ... damn guns keep clogging. Think it's probably condensation. Sigh.

You could borrow my Bizzarrini Manta if that helps?

  7. Woodsy - you can watch those three for the next 6 months, and I'll bet the third goes first for a 'best offer'. You were right not to pay that much for a part set, they are one of the commonest board-games out there after monopoly, scrabble and mouse-trap.

Buy three part-sets at a fiver a piece over a year or so, and you'll have a whole one for 15, and get your money back on the eBay'ed spares!

    'Forstic'...a stirrer for meat porridge.

  8. Good advice Mav. They do seem steep. Think I've got one of these games somewhere anyway. I forget what's in the loft!
