Hi, originals were made by german company Jean Höfler around mid 60s up to early 70s. Eight different types in two colours, white or silver, each in painted or unpainted versions. Size is 7cm. Four of them exists in half the size. Some in different colours were produced for austrian Coffee companies as a giveaway. Left figure of the picture shows an unknown type, based on the original astronaut with the stem. Therefore I think these red astronauts are copies. Here the originals: http://www.blechroboter.de/info/galerie/astronautenbig.html Regards Klaus
Hi Klaus, I left a similar comment yesterday, but it seems it didn't take, and I thought they were Manurba, I have one (white painted) and it's not the usual Jean base.
I went on to say that I think - from the sharp-edged flat feet that they will be French/Spanish/Portugese premiums of the Tito/Ola (Walls) Ice-cream or Tylers/Dunkin bubble-gum type????
Hi Maverick,You´re right, they don´t have the Jean base. But if you follow the link in my first post above and than scroll down the side you´ll find a pic with the smaller 3,5cm figures. All with the usual Jean base. They belong to a playset called Luna Station, which is marked with a Jean trademark. Figure bases are marked W.Germany.
I don´t know the French/ Spanish/ Portugese premiums you mentioned, but have to say that the 7cm astronauts were also sold in a package together with PLONG bubble gum and a space scene/background. These astronauts were painted in a more cheap way. They have only painted faces.
The 7cm Jean astronauts have a small squarish hollow below each foot. Can´t imagine any function, therefore I guess that copies don´t have foot hollows.

Ah! Mine is baseless, I just thought he had a base!! (Too many toys in my head) and I have two of the 30mm one's which are in the right box, the W.GERMANY is unmistakable. I missed out on a silver one just ten minutes ago, but he went for £3+ and I know I'll get some at Herne for a Euro each if I dig about!
I'll check your other link, I think I've been to Alpha before, but you always miss something, also I'll link to your Gallery, my 'favorites' is short on space stuff!
Thanks for posting this identification question for me, Woodsy.
ReplyDeleteThose figures seem familiar. That spacesuit design is very interesting.
ReplyDeleteThere is reason to think they *may* be incomplete - that they should have antennae or aerials on their helmets. But this is not certain.
