IN SPACE NO ONE CAN HEAR YOUR ICE CREAM

The Space Lunch Box got me thinking about what sweet I would have in there - Ice Cream! The treat of choice would be a "Screwball", the upturned Dalek sundae with secret gumball! Mmmmmm. Can you still get them? It's even made it onto Wikipeadia!

But the goodies I'd really like in my box came in their own neat packaging - an Ice Cream in a plastic football and, even cooler, would be the ice cream that came in an Apollo command module complete with opening hatch top! For the life of me I can't find anything on either of these Sixties and Seventies yummies. Anyone else? Or am I dreaming?

In the meantime I'm stocking up on toffees at this amazing online sweet shop! including one of my old favourites, Gold Nuggets Gum in those lttle hessian bags! Hee hee.

  1. The candy I miss most from my youth is the UFO candy that came in the plastic flying saucer. The top was a transparent dome through which you could see the candy which came out through a neat hatch in the bottom.

No Woodsy, you're not dreaming I well remember the Football with ice cream the one I had was blue. But as for the Command Module....Arrrgh! I would have committed something desperate to have had that as a kid to be sure! Mind you, talking of Bubble gum (and I also remember the signal ring) I can remember really cool plastic tanks in green with silver tracks that had a piece of gum inside under the removable top.

  3. I remember the football too! Not the Apollo though :(

My favourite sweets was those rock-hard sherbet type double-coloured "lollies". I can't remember what they were called though :(

  7. Thank you, Woodsy. Nice to know Swizzels still exist! Maybe there's hope for the world yet :)

But I don't think my teeth are up to crunching through them anymore :(

  8. I know what you mean. I have fewer than when I started out in life - teeth that is. The way forward is lots of sucking!

  10. You truly are a sage amongst toads PT. But don't toads slurp?

And Spectrum Steve, don't remember those tanks with gum. Sound great. Like a reapir kit if the tank fell apart - you could stick it together with half-chewed gum! Is there a piccy out there of them?

And did someone mention sweet tobacco? Wow, I used to love that. Yum yum yum.

  11. You're quite right, Woodsy. We toads slurp. But some of us have been well brought up and do so only in private :)

Sweet tobacco? Was that like that "Pirate Gold" stuff - sort of strands of some brown sticky stuff?

  12. Yep PT, sweet sticky strands of heaven in a waxed folded paper. I have just got to find some again! www. quarter Pound of .....here I come.

And Spectrum Steve, those gum tanks, I don't know them but there's a piccy of some here http://smallscaleworld.blogspot.com/2010/01/s-is-for-sorting-out.html

Woodsy I swear you are some kind of Internet genius/Human Search engine! I spent last night looking to see if I could find a pic and there you go and find it. Although my memory was faulty on the order of the colours, that is indeed the tank I was talking about (and the diver on human torpedo below it rang a bell too)Great site into the bargin which is just going in to my favorites list.

  14. Hmm, I don't remember either the tank or the human torpedo, but that two-coloured ship rings a distant bell.

  15. No problem Spectrum Steve, pure luck on my part and far too many hours spent with the laptop warming my cockles whilst watching late night films (like Wargames, on now!)

And Philo T - 'private slurper' - wasn't that released by Toady Turner? I saw it on Top of the Plops!
