Ive located the original colour art for the Uniwheel design I flagged up earlier - the artist/designer was Frank Tilsley and beside producing some wonderful space art in a very distinctive duotone form, he also published an article in Modern Mechanix in 1959, detailing his unique design.

Cool art! Its obviously solar powered. Those look like Fireball XL5's blasting off. And has the Earth got a wheel round it! Nice one Wote. Crazy, I wasn't even born in 1959!
ReplyDeleteOf course; with the gyroscopic, guided-missile technology used in Segway 'scooters', there really is no reason why if you get powerfull enough electro-magnetic couplings and/or self levelling hydraulic rams, you couldn't build these today!!
