SECRET WEAPONS OF WORLD WAR TWO FROM ROCKET PUNCH

Greetings Paul,
On this year's toy quest I came across these little beauties. They were produced by Takara as Secret Weapons of World War Two. Since they're trading figures you never know what you'll get so I bought all that the dealer had on hand. I've supplied photos of the best. I managed to score two Focke Wulf Triebflugals, a Hiller Flying Platform, and a Vought XF5U Flying Flapjack. Enjoy. RP.

Superb! Very Agent 21! Thanks RP! Woodsy

That flying platform is very cool. Puts me in mind of the Dalek flying platforms - copied from the real thing, I bet.

But does anyone know just how this device was envisioned as serving in the war? Was it seen as an actual weapon? Or more like an airborne jeep?

  2. Although Takara refers to the flying platform as a secret weapon ofthe war it was definitely a post war project. The real one is on display here in Tucson at the Pima Air and Space Museum. According to the dispaly it was meant to be an observation craft.

Ah, I wondered why the platform wasn't mentioned in the Dick Strawbridge "Crafty Tricks of World War II" series.

I guess observation makes sense. But imagine being in a battle situation, hovering alone above friend and foe alike, on that very vulnerable platform. Maybe it's just as well the project was abandoned.
