Countdown to Re Entry

Looking at the Task Force Flight 2 ship and Woodstocks pictures showing possible origins, I was reminded of the distinctive artwork of John Burns in Countdown comic. The strip featured the Discovery from 2001 as the titular ship 'Countdown' which goes through some kind of suspended animation state and emerges to find Earth in the grip of a dictatorial regime called 'Zephyr'. The Zephyr patrol ships were called 'Beetles' for some odd reason and were decorated like a killer whale on a bad trip. The basic shape of the ship is very reminiscent of the Task Force 2 though, with the exception of a visible cockpit. It does have the stubby cigar shape and 'needles' on the ventral and dorsal fins.

  1. Wow! Beautiful artwork! I love it! Is there a full comic strip?

  2. there was a whole sequence of the strip from issue 1 onwards - very distinctive artwork. This ones from the Annual, but the artist still paints the Nikolai Dante strip in 2000 ad.
