TELSADA, T IN A CIRCLE AND THE JR21 NEW FLYING SAUCER BY FERRYMAN

A connection that I came across recently links JR21 to Telsalda. If your not already familiar with Telsalda, they produced hundreds of enlarged plastic copies of Corgi, Dinky, Matchbox and Spot-On models in the 60's and early 70's. Telsalda toys are often marked Lucky, NFIC and Tat on the bases suggesting that several manufacturers were moulding the models. The link I referred to above was hidden inside a JR21 Flying Saucer. These toys contain a disc of cardboard hidden from view under the dome. The cardboard in some of the models I have inspected originated from a Telsalda speedboat box. The manufacturer must have made use of waste card from around the factory.

It wasn't (one of) my saucer's that featured the Telsalda logo but I have four of them here that I have just looked at. Two don't have any card in them, one has a blank white card and the other does have a section of the same speedboat box. Unfortunately there is no text or logos on this section.  I've come across a few Telsalda boats on Ebay over the last few years. Telsalda also made a few robots which turn up from time to time. Maybe somebody can identify the toy from the box section. Ferryman  (if any reader can ID this speedboat toy/ box (catface-shaped part of blue box as seen below) with a picture then I'll send you a blog freebie gift! Woodsy)

Excellent! I love thos sort of stuff! Further to Ferryman's fascinating research I have found this refernce to a T- TELSADA New Flying Saucer online on a French toy dealer's site. The item is marked as sold I think with the following description and pictures, but alas I can't see any logos. I wonder if the dealer is simply assuming that T stands for Telsada? If its T in a Circle then its not, as its T in a Circle. Or does it say Telsada somewhere on the saucer or box?

PS. 18th January 2010 - MYSTERY SOLVED! Yes, T in a Circle did make a New Flying Saucer! One for sale on Ebay January 2010. Pictures to follow. I now personally think that the French dealer emntioned in this piece wrongly assumed that T stood for Telsada. I believe that his example is the same make as that on Ebay January 2010, which is  T in a Circle. Woodsy

Can anybody confirm with a picture whether T ( which means T in a Circle) put out one of these New Flying Saucers as well? A picture of the Telsada logo's New Flying saucer would be cool too!

  1. I realize this is an older post, but I'm somewhat new to this line of toys. I recently picked up a New Flying Saucer -- it features a pink cockpit, like the first picture in your post, but has the same T-in-a-Circle box as the second and third photo (with the blue cockpit saucer). Mine has no sticker on the saucer's edge, but I'm assuming this fell off.

As far as I know, there are three different boxes -- the one I've got, as well as the one I can see in the edge of your first photo. Additionally, this second box was available with German writing on it (which my friend owns). I'm not sure if any additional info can be gleaned from this -- in fact, this might be old news to you -- but I figured I'd mention it.

Do you happen to know if the saucer came in any color combinations besides red/yellow/blue and red/yellow/pink? Are there any other examples of the red/yellow/pink versions coming in the T-in-a-Circle boxes?

  2. Hi Doc A
Excellent comment! I do love the New Flying Saucer. Your'e right about the 3 versions: JR21, T and Brohm (or Bomn, can't remember). The German one was called Weltraum Erkunder. All on the blog somewhere, getting hard to find stuff!. There's a few NFSaucer pieces on this thread I've put together using the search button http://projectswordtoys.blogspot.com/search?q=new+flying+saucer

I have just bought the T in a Circle boxed version and can't wait to get it and have a good looksee. there's still the mystery about the inner gasket ass seen in the blog feature here. Still no idea where it's from.

I'll post your question about colour variations in the main blog - just the sort of thing we all like!
    Cheers
