I Saw Two Ships

Woodsy,

Here are two small ship models I recently found at a local flea market. I’m not into ships really, but since I never see model kits of any kind at tag sales or flea markets, I snapped them up.

I decided to build them both, in honor of my father, who loved all things involving the sea.

The Lindberg Tuna Seiner is from 1964, and the Pyro Flying Cloud is from 1966. Both were fun to build, but the Flying Cloud was difficult due to the many finicky masts. As you can see, I did not dare try any rigging!

  1. Nice work Rob.
    But guesse what ?
You need to do the rigging !
At least on the first vessel.
It will make all the difference.

    1. No no no! No rigging! That's the main reason I don't do ship models! Just the thought terrifies me... SFZ

    1. Yes, Father would have liked these. He was really a sea-faring type (and I think disappointed that his son was a Landlubber!) SFZ

A beautiful pair of models. Excellent paint work, as always. Atlantis have recently re-issued that Tuna Seiner, along with three other vintage Lindberg boat kits, so it is again possible to find this excellent little model in the shops.

  4. Now for some photographs of them both together with dry ice vapors--and you have a diorama for THE FOG by John Carpenter.

I think the "Sea Grass" was the same model motor vessel.

    1. When I was on Social Media, I saw many folks who made wonderful dioramas for their ship models, including resin-cast "seas" that were amazing. There is so much you can do with a ship model. SFZ

  6. Excellent! I love ship models and even made a couple way back in the day. One was fully rigged and an absolute bear to assemble. I think that's why I didn't bother to build any more! LOL
