It seems to me that what we knew as Saturday morning cartoons are dead.
Oh! the glories of Banana Splits, Spider Man, Marine Boy, the Arabian Knights and Shazzan to name just a few of many triumphs!
Our Grandkids don't watch telly in a morning. They each have a mobile phone which they either watch You Tube videos on or play games.
I tried putting CBBC on this morning but they just weren't really interested.
The fact that children's TV is hived off on separate channels way down the listings is another nail in the cartoons coffin.
Maybe all of terrestrial telly has had it?
Are Saturday morning cartoons toast where you live?
My household CBBC is still king, Spongebob, a french cartoon called Submarine Jim is cool, Bluey, Don't watch this show...
ReplyDeleteThere's a very cool anthology show called "Creeped Out" like a kids Twighlight Zone if you will, season 1 is on YouTube, season 2 was on Netflix
That's good to hear MJ. Submarine sounds good. I've just remembered that our Grandkids watch Scooby Doo episodes - on You Tube I think.
DeleteLived for Saturday morning! Superman/Batman hour, Bugs Bunny/Roadrunner hour, Jonny Quest, Dasterdly and Muttley, Wacky Races, Land of the Lost. I still miss Saturday mornings with real cartoons on the channels!!

Me too Jim! It was the pay off after a week at dreaded skool! Oh what fun we had watching those those ace cartoons on Saturday morning. Frankenstein Jr. rocks! Wacky Races was the tops!
DeleteTalking Pictures TV don't show cartoons, but do recreate that Saturday morning cinema matinee/kidsTV feel with 40s, 50s and 60s cinema and TV children's shows.

DeleteNo Saturday morning cartoons in New Zealand in the 1960s and 1970s for me, as there simply was no morning TV of any kind in those days. Not sure when that began, but it was much later in NZ than elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteCartoons, and other children's programmes, were only on in the afternoons, up until the evening news.
